PSSR Inspections For Commercial Coffee Machines
If your commercial coffee machine uses pressurised steam, it’s essential to schedule routine PSSR (Pressure Systems Safety Regulations) inspections. These checks help maintain the safety and efficiency of your equipment, ensuring that the pressurised vessel and valves meet industry standards.

The Importance of PSSR Checks
A PSSR inspection helps your business stay compliant with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (2000) and reduces the risk of accidents caused by neglected equipment. Additionally, failure to carry out regular inspections could affect your insurance coverage.

What to Expect During a PSSR Inspection
One of our IOSH-certified engineers will visit your premises to perform a detailed inspection, including pressure testing the steam boiler’s safety valve and assessing both the internal and external components of the boiler vessel.

Inspection Process:

-
Disassembling the coffee machine
-
Draining the boiler and removing the heating element
-
Conducting a detailed assessment of the boiler and valve
-
Reassembling and running a full-pressure test

We check for any signs of corrosion or weaknesses to confirm the machine’s safety. Upon completion, you will receive an IOSH certificate, and if needed, we can provide internal images of the steam boiler for full transparency.

How Often Should a PSSR Inspection Be Carried Out?
According to the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (2000), commercial coffee machines must be inspected once they are over 14 months old. After the initial check, annual inspections are recommended, though the exact frequency may depend on the machine type and usage.

Does Every Commercial Coffee Machine Need a PSSR Check?
Not all commercial coffee machines require PSSR inspections. Only those with a pressurised vessel, such as Bean to Cup and Traditional Espresso Machines, need regular testing. Filter coffee machines typically don’t require PSSR checks, though routine maintenance is still advised to ensure longevity and safe operation.
